Use your own AI key

Stratafold’s AI writes with one of four AI services: Claude (made by Anthropic), GPT (by OpenAI), Gemini (by Google) or Kimi (by Moonshot AI). An AI key is a long, password-like code from your own account with one of those companies. Paste it into Stratafold once, and the AI writes for you on that account. A subscription such as ChatGPT Plus is not the same thing and doesn’t work.

Do I need one?

• During the original 14-day trial, it is optional. Your first business receives 200 AI credits using Stratafold’s provider accounts. No separate provider account or card is required.
• On a paid plan, it’s optional. Plans include AI credit. With your own key, that company bills you instead, and Stratafold adds nothing on top.

What it costs

The AI company bills you directly for what the AI writes for you — usually a few cents per post. Stratafold never charges for AI that runs on your key. Each company shows what you have spent in its own account.

1. Get a key

Pick one company. Each link opens the page where you make a key:

1. Open the page and sign in, or create a free account.
2. Add a way to pay. Anthropic, OpenAI and Moonshot AI need a payment method or a small top-up under Billing before a new key works. Google lets a new key write a limited amount each day for free; add billing there later if you reach the limit.
3. Create a new key, name it Stratafold, and copy it. It is shown only once.

2. Add it to Stratafold

1. Open Your AI key & plan in the menu. It takes you to Business settings → AI keys.
2. Choose Add your Claude key — or GPT, Gemini or Kimi, whichever company you chose.
3. Paste it into Your key and choose Save and check.

Stratafold checks the key with the company before saving it. A key the company refuses is not saved, and Stratafold says why. Only owners and admins can add keys; editors don’t see them.

Which AI writes

Every website in your business that writes with that company’s AI now uses your key. Each website chooses its AI under Teach the AI → Which AI writes for you, where the choices that run on your key are marked (your key):

The key must be for the company chosen there. Your original trial can use managed models with its included credit. Adding your own key makes requests to that company use your account; review the chosen model in Teach the AI.

Some models require your own provider account even when you have Stratafold credit. Choose an included managed model to use your trial or membership allowance. The model picker shows which account pays before you start.

How your key is protected

Your key is encrypted before it is stored, and the encryption is tied to your business, so it can’t be read or used anywhere else. It is only unlocked for the moment the AI writes, it is never shown again, and only its last four characters appear so you can tell keys apart.

Replace or remove a key

Use Replace key when you make a new key at the company, and Check key to test a saved one. Remove stops using it straight away. The AI uses available Stratafold credit after you remove your key, where a managed model is available. On a paid plan, websites that write with that AI use your plan’s AI credit instead where Stratafold offers it; otherwise choose another AI in Teach the AI.
